We can purchase and download systems, processes, structures &amp; policies \u2013 we can also find an infinite amount of knowledge and wisdom at the ends of our fast-tapping fingertips &#8211; but we can\u2019t download or purchase the emotional intelligence and people skills that creates a productive, motivated, engaged and happy work team.<\/p>\n<p>Organisations \u2013 from family-owned small businesses to large companies \u2013 are embracing power skills and finally identifying, and investing in, the informal leaders in their workplace who people naturally look to and follow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are our favourite power skills this month:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-awareness &#8211; the ability to self-assess for growth<\/li>\n<li>Empathy \u2013 stepping into and supporting the challenges experienced in your team<\/li>\n<li>Vulnerability &amp; courage \u2013 trust and be trusted<\/li>\n<li>Team-building \u2013 parking your ego and empowering your team to shine<\/li>\n<li>Communication \u2013 adapting to your audience to improve the clarity of your communication style<\/li>\n<li>Curiosity \u2013 the constant quest to learn more rather than form judgements<\/li>\n<li>Active listening \u2013 being willing to have your mind changed<\/li>\n<li>Growth mindset \u2013 adapting &amp; building resilience<\/li>\n<li>Humility \u2013 identifying &amp; parking our unconscious biases<\/li>\n<li>Observing what\u2019s not being said \u2013 reading your audience, their body language, tone, mood<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If this all sounds too much for those of you who lead with skillsets try a simple self-assessment Q&amp;A when you drive home at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What could I have done better today?<\/li>\n<li>What do my team-members need from me?<\/li>\n<li>What do I need to stop doing?<\/li>\n<li>What do I need to start doing?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Just the act of self-assessing will help you on the journey to developing your power skills.
